Parent Behavior Management:
For parents of young children, ages 2-8, who are struggling with defiance, difficulties getting through daily routines, arguing, poor frustration tolerance, frequent/intense tantrums, and verbal/physical aggression. This workshop is also helpful for these behaviors that may be related to early symptoms of ADHD. In this workshop, parents will learn the following:
-
how to structure an effective environment to encourage calm, regulated emotions in their child
-
consistent daily schedules that promote compliance
-
ways to interact with children through positive parenting techniques
-
effective strategies for discipline
-
how to manage overwhelming tantrums
-
when medication and/or assessment and follow up with an individual therapist may be necessary
Parenting Anxious Children:
Based on Eli Lebowitz's SPACE parent-based program (Supportive Parent for Anxious Childhood Emotions), this workshop provides psychoeducation on how parents can support and reduce clinical anxiety in their children through the following skills:
1) understanding the parent role in the avoidance/escape cycle of anxiety disorders
2) how to teach/coach your anxious child without reassuring or giving in
3) how a parent may unknowingly accommodate or reinforce a child's fears
4) how to engage in effective exposures
5) managing child pushback/resistance to anxiety-provoking situations
TREATMENT CONSULTATION
One hour consultation sessions are offered for parents or individuals that are either unsure of treatment needs, would like psychoeducation on a specific topic of mental health, and/or are looking for short term guidance on a targeted issue. This service does not include a diagnostic assessment, therefore the clinician would not be evaluating the client nor providing ongoing therapeutic support. These sessions are designed for parents who would benefit from 1-3 consultation sessions and are not looking for a diagnostic evaluation.
If the clinician and client decide that engaging in a therapeutic relationship would be beneficial for the client's needs, the therapist would set up a diagnostic assessment and an ongoing treatment plan. Behavioral consultation sessions are NOT covered by insurance and would be charged at the clinicians individual hourly rate. If you are interested in this service, please note this in the "new client" form on our website.
