GROUP SKILLS COURSES

DBT Skills Course for Teens and Adults: 

This is not a processing group, but rather a skills course to help you to develop four major skills:

  • Distress Tolerance: Helps people tolerate negative emotions by calmly recognizing negative situations and their impact

  • Emotion regulation: Helps people manage their feelings and reduce emotional intensity, which can help avoid harmful behaviors and emotions

  • Interpersonal effectiveness: Helps people communicate in healthy ways and develop more stable relationships by teaching them how to assert themselves and set boundaries

  • Mindfulness: Helps people focus on the present moment and observe their thoughts and emotions without judgment ​​​​​​​

 

Teen DBT Course Details: 

Age: 13-17 and we will make case by case determinations about fit based on client maturity etc. The teen group does not include parents. 

 

When: Weekly from 4-5:30 pm on Thursdays beginning Nov 7

 

Where: Virtually via a secure video platform

 

Cost: $50/session with a 6-8 month commitment (unless there is consistent feedback that a DBT Lite 12-week group is preferred based on interest). This service is not covered by insurance.

Requirements: Is engaging in individual therapy (at Novo or another clinic)

Adult DBT Course Details:

Age: 18+ college age and above

 

When: Weekly from 1-3 pm on Fridays, beginning Nov 1

 

Where: Virtually via a secure video platform

 

Cost: $50/session with a 6-8 month commitment (unless there is consistent feedback that a DBT Lite 12-week group is preferred based on interest) This service is not covered by insurance.

Requirements: Is engaging in individual therapy (at Novo or another clinic)

Social Skills Group: 

Adolescent and teen years are a time of significant social change and growth. Develop strong social skills in order to be successful in building and maintaining positive relationships. Learn the following skills: eye contact, initiating and carrying a conversation, handling an argument, showing compassion, being accountable, managing emotions and building empathy.
