ABBY BARTHEL, PHD

THERAPY APPROACH

Abby’s therapeutic approach uses humor, compassion, and nonjudgment to foster a genuine and affirming space for clients to reach their personal goals. Abby prioritizes the unique perspectives of each client and is dedicated to understanding emotions and behaviors within the biosocial and cultural contexts in which they occur. She believes each client is doing the best they can, and that they can improve, through the use of skills, identification of values, and a balance of acceptance and change.

Abby utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and trauma-based interventions (Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure) in her work with adults, teens, families, and couples. It is common for Abby to teach clients skills in distress tolerance, emotion regulation, values-based living, boundary setting, acceptance, and mindfulness. At this time, Abby is offering in-person and telehealth (audiovisual) therapy sessions.
